Apparently the fix isn't in for appropriate setting for Apple Mail. I realize the idea behind the unnecessary changes is to limit spam. But, it's just the latest example of how it's the CUSTOMER is inconvenienced!

My concern is/has been once you start tinkering with the settings, one or the other no longer functions properly: you can send but not receive or you can receive but not send; at least that's been my experience. AT&T has a tool to use but it's not applicable to the latest version of Apple Mail. I followed the 'general' instructions for Outlook as far as ports, SSL etc and hopefully that will suffice. If I run into problems I'll try the recommendation 'dsando' offered here.it boils down to the fact that AT&T would MUCH prefer you used webmail rather than an email client. This actually has very little if anything to do with reducing spam. It has to do with encrypting YOUR e-mail to help keep it from prying eyes.
