I've returned to the Mac after years on Windows, latterly Windows 8. I'm having difficulty in replicating what was very straightforward under Windows in Mac OS X Mountain Lion. I want to set my QNAP TS-219P so that volumes on the NAS are available from bootup/login, and will appear in the Finder sidebar, so that I can access them, when I choose, from there. I have managed to achieve this in part, BUT the volumes automatically open in windows on the desktop when I reboot, which I do not want. I'd appreciate help from anyone with a similar setup.
If anyone can help, I am of moderate technical competence, perhaps much less so on the Mac, and would require any solutions to be described in detail, especially if any use of Terminal is concerned; I.e., how to save any file created to the correct location, and so on. Wrote AppleScript, compiled it ran it, then saved it as app, and put it in System Prefs>Users & Groups>Login Items, but I get a connection error: 'Finder got an error: Network file permission error.' Is the name of the volume to be mounted that which appears under Name in QFinder? The default ones are Download/Multimeda/Public/etc. What you have also in the web interface under Privilege Settings / Shared Folders. As username, you have to use one of the user from the NAS (so not what you have in OSX (I assume you dont use AD or LDAP authentication)) For example if you try to mount the Download and Multimedia shares, from the QNAP which has an IP address 192.168.1.120, and you have a user configured in the NAS called 'Mom' (and Mom has access to these shares configured in the QNAPs web interface), you have to use the following. The AppleScript now mounts the NAS in the Finder sidebar under its IP address, as that's what I entered in AppleScript. However, the actual folders I wanted to be available in the sidebar do not appear; one is within the Public folder, and one within he Qmultimedia folder.

These, I have specified in the path name, as you indicated, and it seems to run ok, but does not make the folders appear. It's not a problem. I can still just access the folders as I had been previously; by opening the NAS in the Finder sidebar and digging through it till I find what I want. Re trying to mount the files manually, it works, and I can put them into users & groups, but when I tick Hide, the folders open in windows each time I reboot. That's why I posted to the QNAP forum.
